DoorKing Welding & Fabrication: The San Fernando Owner’s Guide

We stock and install DoorKing-compatible weldments and fabricated gate components across San Fernando, with most hinge, bracket, and frame repairs running $280 to $950 installed, depending on the part and the amount of field welding required. Most jobs are completed in a single visit. The typical call starts the same way: a gate that dragged for months finally caught the driveway, or a weld cracked at the hinge plate and now the gate sags an inch and a half past the striker. You already know something let go. What we do is match the failed part to your DoorKing model, fabricate or source the correct replacement, and weld it back square so the operator isn’t fighting a gate that no longer hangs true.

Which DoorKing Models This Applies To

DoorKing’s residential and light-commercial swing and slide gates share common failure points across model families, but the part you need depends on what you actually have. The 6000-series and 9000-series slide gate operators, the 1601 and 1602 swing operators, and the 6050/6100 barrier gate arms all use fabricated steel brackets, hinge assemblies, and motor mounts that crack or wear over time. The quickest way to identify what we’re working with is the data plate on the operator housing: it lists the model number and serial. But the more useful information is usually on the gate itself. Hinge spacing, post thickness, and the width of the gate leaf tell us more about the weldment than the operator model does.

When a DoorKing bracket fails, the decision is OEM versus a fabricated equivalent. DoorKing’s own replacement brackets are fine, but on gates that have shifted out of square over the years, an off-the-shelf bracket often doesn’t account for what the gate actually does now. We fabricate to the gate as it sits, not as the drawing assumes it should sit. For a San Fernando driveway that’s seen fifteen years of sun and half an inch of post settlement, that’s the difference between a repair that holds and a bracket that breaks again in eighteen months. We carry common DoorKing hinge plates and operator brackets on the truck. We fabricate the rest.

One caution: we are an independent service company, not a DoorKing factory or authorized parts dealer. We repair and replace DoorKing equipment every week, and we stand behind our work, but the name on our invoices is ours.

Signs Your DoorKing Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

Signs Your DoorKing Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
  • The gate scrapes or drags at the free end. This usually means a hinge has dropped or the weld at the hinge plate has begun to fail. The operator then works harder on every cycle, which shortens its life.
  • The gate shudders or hops during travel. A cracked weld in the mid-rail can cause the gate’s weight to shift unevenly, making the gate pulse as it moves. It looks like an operator problem, but it’s often a fabrication problem that’s feeding vibration into the chain or ram.
  • You can see daylight through a weld. Once an original weld has cracked completely, the two pieces move independently under load. That movement prevents any amount of adjustment from making the operator run smooth.
  • The gate sits visibly crooked when closed. A half-inch sag at the latch side may be a worn hinge, but it could also be a failed gusset, a stretched hinge barrel, or a post that’s rusted through inside. We remove layers until we find the part that’s actually carrying the load.
  • A bolt snapped, a bracket sheared, or an arm bent. When one fitting fails suddenly, something else was already moving that shouldn’t have been. We blame the broken bolt first and the frozen hinge or misaligned track second, and we fix both.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In San Fernando, most DoorKing welding and fabrication repairs land between $280 and $950 installed. A simple hinge plate replacement on a single swing gate runs at the low end. A cracked slide-gate frame that needs new steel spliced in, gussets added, and the chain re-tensioned lands at the high end. The range reflects what we find when we cut back to clean metal. You’ll get a written price before any work starts – that’s Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, and it’s not something we flex on. The price covers the part, the welding, the grinding and cleanup, and the photo record of the work. If the gate was welded and ground, you leave with pictures of the joint, not a story about it.

A homeowner can inspect a gate safely: look at the weld roots, watch the gate move through a full cycle, put your hand on the hinge while someone presses the remote. If you can see a crack, you know the answer. What we don’t recommend is welding a gate yourself. It’s not just the risk of burning through thin tube. A gate that’s been welded out of square becomes a permanent problem for the operator, the hinges, and the posts. And if you’re dealing with a tensioned spring assembly or a gate that can fall if you remove the wrong piece, the danger is real. That’s a job for a technician who welds gates every week and checks the gate’s balance before he calls it done.
